Ursula von der Leyen serves as President of the European Commission and is in her second Commission mandate for 2024–2029. She became the first woman to hold the Commission presidency in 2019.
A physician by training, von der Leyen previously held several German federal ministerial posts, including family, labor and defense portfolios, before moving to the European Commission.
