Background & current role

Sanae Takaichi serves as Prime Minister of Japan. Japan’s Prime Minister’s Office identifies her as the 105th prime minister, following an earlier term as the 104th prime minister beginning in October 2025.

A longtime Liberal Democratic Party lawmaker, Takaichi has held Cabinet portfolios that included economic security, science and technology, space and intellectual-property policy.
